Andrés Manuel López Beltrán doesn't want to be called "Andy" and gave a powerful reason

Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, son of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador ( AMLO ), explained why he doesn't want to be called "Andy." This was the compelling reason he gave.
AMLO's eldest son , also known as Andy López Beltrán , explained in an interview for "La Moreniza, the Transformation Podcast," why he prefers to be referred to by his full name.
The interview aired today, Thursday, June 5, for episode 11 of the podcast hosted by Luisa Alcalde , leader of Morena.
Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, Morena's Organization Secretary, was the special guest for episode 11 of La Moreniza, which focused on the 2025 Durango elections.
During his participation, Andrés Manuel López Beltrán took the opportunity to explain why he doesn't want to be called by his nickname "Andy," as he is known by many and is even referred to in the media.
AMLO's son expressed his pride in bearing his father's name, whom he said is "the best president of Mexico."
Therefore, he asserted that taking that away would diminish the value of the name and rob it of AMLO's legacy.
"And my greatest pride is calling myself the best president this country has ever had. Calling me Andy is to diminish that, to take away that legacy, to take away that name."
Andrés Manuel López Beltrán expressed that he hopes people continue to call him by his full name, and not by diminutives or other variations of his name such as “ Andy ” or Andrés López Beltrán, without Manuel included.

Throughout the program, Andrés Manuel López Beltrán added that he doesn't trust the media, which is why he doesn't respond to them due to a lack of credibility.
In this regard, Andrés Manuel López Beltrán stated that in the state of Durango , where the 2025 elections were held, no media outlet or opposition representatives, such as Rubén Moreira and Alejandro Moreno of the PRI, referred to him by his full name because they are afraid of what AMLO's name is worth and represents.
“In Durango, they didn't want to mention Moreira or Alito in any local media outlet. They never mentioned me by name. Why? Because they're afraid, and they know the value of a name and the value of Andrés Manuel López Obrador's legacy.”

Among the media outlets AMLO's son mentioned were Reforma and LatinUS, which referred to him as "Andy" and placed greater emphasis on coverage of Morena's alleged defeats in Durango municipalities.
To conclude the topic of his name, Andrés Manuel López Beltrán concluded that he doesn't take it personally when people call him "Andy," but he reflects that it is a way for the opposition to attack former President AMLO despite his retirement from public life.
